About Shinhotaka Ropeway

It is half a century with history of Shinhotaka Ropeway mountain

In 1961 Okuhida Kaihatsu public corporation was established by local municipalities, Takayama chamber of commerce, Nagoya Railroad, Nohi bus and Toyamachiho Railroad to develop regional economy and tourist attractions in Oku-hida. On 8 May 1962 Okuhi Kankou Kaihatu Co., Ltd. was established to realize West Hotaka ropeway plan to link Shinhotaka onsen with Kamikouchi, Shinshu by ropeway.

Original plan was to link inner part of Shinhotaka onsen at 1,600m above sea level with the west Kappa Bridge, Kamikouchi via the south of Nishihosanso. The plan was changed to the current route and business execution authorization application was submitted to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (Now Ministry of Environment) in 1968.
On 15 July 1970, Shinhotaka Ropeway started revenue service eight years after the establishment of the company. Opening of Shinhotaka ropeway changes Okuhida Onsen hot spring area completely. The area has turned from a rural hot spring area to leading sightseeing resort in Chubu regeon.
